Book review- The hundred-year-old man who climbed out of the window and disapeared

Long title huh? I went to the dentist and I cant remember why, but we got talking about books, and I said I was reading this one and he looked at me really funny...

Blurb: It all starts on the one-hundredth birthday of Allan Karlsson. Sitting quietly in his room in an old people's home, he is waiting for the party he-never-wanted-anyway to begin. The mayor is going to be there. The press is going to be there. But, as it turns out, Allan is not...Slowly but surely Allan climbs out of his bedroom window, into the flowerbed (in his slippers) and makes his getaway. And so begins his picaresque and unlikely journey involving criminals, several murders, a suitcase full of cash, and incompetent police.

Think Forrest Gump. Allan Karlsson is a mischievous 100 year old who wanders through the book doing things he shouldn't, as well as having recounts of his pretty amazing life where he frequently eats with various notables throughout the 20th century. This book took me a little while to read because it's quite a lot of information to take in, but I found that because I've been studying a lot of 20th century history at school it's really interesting. He meets General Franco, who led the Nationalists to victory during the Spanish Civil war, and I was thinking "I know who he is!!!". Even if you don't know that much about history, it's a funny book. Not as fast paced as I usually like, but still great!
